We rebranded!! L'aviye - formerly known as Accessories by Abiye

Hello all,

Happy new year! I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas break! Here's to a beautiful 2014 - the start of something big and beautiful!

As you may all know, we had promised that Accessories by Abiye would be launching a new collection by the end of November, 2013. Well, I started working on the collection and approached a fashion photographer and website designer (Duvera Media) to take our photos. One thing led to another and we decided it would be best to re-brand Accessories by Abiye and come up with a new image for the brand.

One of the things we decided to do with the relaunch was to rename the brand, alongside coming up with a new look that was elegant, sophisticated and glamorous as I felt this was the look I wanted the brand to portray.

After giving it a lot of thought, I concluded that 'Accessories by Abiye' was a good name to start with but was a bit limiting as a name because I have plans in the near future to venture into other items that aren't necessarily accessories and having Accessories by Abiye as the name of a business that's not necessarily selling accessories would make my customers question the brand and its integrity.

I also have a vision for the brand and where I hope to take it, and that needed a name that is short, unique, 'catchy' and gave an impression of what the brand was about.

We played around with many names, all of which I wont bore you with, but we decided on L'aviye. L'aviye is a fusion of both my names (Abiye & Yvonne = Aviye) and we added the L' to highlight the exotic, elegant, sophisticated feel to the name.

So there we have it: L'aviye! We launched the first collection 'Lavish Indulgence' in mid November, and we are so pleased with the response it got - thank you to all of you.

Hey!!!

Its been a while guys.. How've you all been?

I've been busy in my studio working hard on the new line. I really can't wait to launch it. In the meantime, there's been so much going on in terms of exhibitions, events etc.. and I'm loving every single minute of it.. :)

Accessories by Abiye in ELLE UK and COMPANY magazine

Hiiiiiiiiii guys,

How's your week been?! Hope all good :) Mine has been amaaaazing! and here's why:

Today I'd like to share with you how I got into ELLE & company magazine. A few months ago (June '13), I was got an email from a lady worked for ELLE who said that ELLE loved my accessories and thought Accessories by Abiye would be perfect for a feature in their magazine! I read this email about 10 times in the space of 2 minutes - I literally couldn't believe it.

Being the African that I am, I had to call the number at the bottom of the email to confirm that this wasn't a 419 scam (LOL.. God please forgive me).. Anyway, I spoke to the lady and she confirmed everything that had been said on the email and asked me to send them photos of my work, my website address, contact details and a short bio on AA...

After sending them photos, about 3 weeks ago, she got in contact saying 'Hi Abiye, we love the photos, would you like to be in COMPANY magazine aswell?'. I'm like... whatttttttttttttttt??? Of course I would.. that's like asking if I want to breathe lol.. Anyway, fastforward to last Friday, I got a parcel through the post from ELLE & COMPANY of the recent magazines that featured AA. I shared this on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram (follow me there, if you don't already).

Here it is ladies & gentlemen, our feature in ELLE UK & COMPANY's September 2013 edition which is out now. I literally cannot believe my eyes, and as you may have guessed, I've bought every copy I can lay my hands on & sometimes, I walk into a store that sells magazines, I open a COMPANY magazine just to check that its there... I literally have to pinch myself each time... AAHHHHHHHHHHHH Its unreal! The best feeling ever!!!

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us so far by liking our pages & sharing our content on social media! You have no idea how much it means to me! Thank you. I can't believe that AA is just less than 8 months old! I'm so grateful to all our supporters - THANK YOU!

* God!!! He's just great! He takes the undeserving & gives them things that they wouldn't have dared dream, asked for or even imagined! He's faithful!

* My family! My mom, dad & sister are literally the most supportive family EVER! I thank God for giving me you!!!

Hope you've had a great week?

I took a week out last week to relax and all I can say is, I'm glad rest is essential!!

The perfect day to night look: A little pink never hurt anyone...

I created this look for a sophisticated, elegant lady using my handmade pink & silver brooch. This look can be worn to an office and subsequently out for an evening with the girls - the very essence of a 'day-to-night' look. It can also be teamed up with a fascinator and would be perfect for a wedding, or the brooch can be adorned with a string of pearls (as shown) to add the '60s, old Hollywood glamour to your ensemble!

If you're not keen on brooches, try adding some colour to your hair and wearing it as a hair accessory, using the hair pin at the back.

Q: Who makes the accessories? 

A: Everything is done by myself. From designing & creating to promo etc. I do it all. Its hardwork, but it is worth it & I love what I do.

Q: Where can I purchase your accessories?

Q: Do you post items to the US?

A: Absolutely! Most of my customers are based in the US. I post items worldwide!

Q: What sort of accessories do you make?

A: At the moment, I handmake & customise earrings, bangles, necklaces, hair bands, hair clips, brooches, ladies bow ties, handbags, clutchbags & shoes. For men, I make bow ties, pocket squares & cufflinks.

A little about me: My name is Abiye & I love all things accessories!!! I love accessorising - it amazes me how simple, basic outfits can be transformed using elegant accessories. I was born in Nigeria, and because of my African heritage and my absolute LOVE for the traditional West African ankara and kente wax prints, I started making accessories using African print fabric.
